Do nouns take arguments in the same way that verbs do? We take Chomsky 1970 as our starting point, but put aside true (deverbal) nominalizations and focus rather on questions about what Chomsky calls the `base-structures’ for nominals. We’ll look at cases of apparent complements and subjects of Ns and attempt to tease out whether  these are licensed in analogous ways to the complements and subjects of verbs.
