Aims and Objectives of FOSSSIL

The Broad Aims and Objectives for which the FOSSSIL Society is established are:

  1. To undertake research and investigation in the syntax and semantics of Indian languages, and/ or the languages of the various social groups in India.

  2. To elicit, collect, compile, analyse, and interpret the data having a bearing on the syntax and semantics of Indian languages, and the formal description and explanation thereof.

  3. To conceive, formulate, foster, and undertake schemes/activities leading to the development of formal linguistic descriptions and analyses of Indian languages.

  4. To provide facilities and act as a forum for exchange of information ideas and experience in the practices and techniques in formal linguistic descriptions and analyses of Indian languages.

  5. To undertake, conduct and organise conferences, lectures, seminars, symposia and the like for stimulating thought and effort in developing formal linguistic descriptions and analyses of Indian languages.

  6. To provide facilities for training and extension of knowledge to persons for equipping them with the ability to undertake fruitful research in formal linguistic descriptions and analyses of Indian languages.

  7. To cooperate with other institutions in India and other parts of the World having objects wholly or partly similar to those of the society by exchange of information, faculty and staff and by undertaking such of the activities with such other institutions.

  8. To undertake and conduct fresh surveys where needed for collection of information and data on issues relating to the formal linguistic description and analysis of Indian languages.

  9. To establish and maintain research centres with a view to foster research techniques on issues relating to the formal linguistic description and analysis of Indian languages.

  10. To establish and maintain a library and build up a collection of books, periodicals, literature and magazines on issues relating to the formal linguistic description and analysis of Indian languages.

  11. To invite, appoint, and provide specialists, experts, and/or consultants, research, and development services for providing expertise and information relating to the formal linguistic description and analysis of Indian languages.

  12. To print, publish and distribute newsletter, research reports, studies and other publications pertaining to the activities of the Society.

  13. To institute and award fellowships, prizes, medals, diplomas, certificates etc. for the furtherance of the above-mentioned objectives.
